In this seas on, the show went back to airing one new episode a week, but stayed in the hour- lengt h format, filling up the s econd half-hour with ep isodes from pr evious seas ons a nd some of the prime- time sp ecials from the 1980s. Thi s entire s eason, along with the sec ond half of s eason 6, is available on Garfield and Friends Volume 5 DVD set. Also wo rth noting is that h ere, a new them e song was added that w as wri tten by J.R. Johnston and N eil Panton. The theme was sung by J. R. J ohnst on. T his th eme song was not show n interna tional ly, and a s a re sult, it does not a ppear on the DVDs (although Garfield's quotations a re kept intact). This new introduction se quence used most cl ips fr om Seasons 5-7 and a few from the first tw o sea sons, as well as Garfi eld in P arad ise and Garfield's Feline Fa ntasies.
