In this season , the show went back to airing one new episo de a week, but stayed in the hour- length format, f illi ng up the second half-hour with e pisodes from previous seas ons and s ome of the prime-time specials from the 1 980s. This entire season, along with the secon d half of season 6, is availab le on Garfield and F riends Volume 5 DVD set. Al so worth noting is that here, a new theme song was added that was written by J.R. Johnst on and Ne il P anton. The theme was sung by J.R. Johnston. Th is theme song was not s hown i nternational ly, and as a resu lt, it do es not appea r on the DVDs (al though Garfield's quo tations a re kept intact). This new introduction sequence used most clips from S easons 5-7 a nd a few from the first two se ason s, as well as Garfield in Paradise and Garfield 's Feline Fantasi es.
