In this season, the sho w went ba ck to a iring one new episode a wee k, but stayed in the ho ur-lengt h format, filling up the second half-hour with ep isodes from previous seasons and some of the prime-time specials from the 1980s. This entire season, alo ng w ith the second half of season 6, is av ailable on G arfiel d and Friends Volume 5 DVD set. Also worth notin g is that here, a new theme song was ad ded that was written by J.R. Joh nston and Neil Panton. The theme was sung b y J.R. Jo hnsto n. This them e song was not shown intern ationally , and as a re sult, i t does no t appear on the DV Ds (although Garfield's quotations are kept intact ). This new introduct ion sequence used most clips fro m Se asons 5-7 and a fe w from the f irst two se ason s, as well as Garfield in Paradise an d Garfield's Fel ine Fan tasies.
