In this se ason, the show w ent back to airing one new episod e a week, but staye d in the hour-length forma t, filling up the second half -hour with episodes from previous seaso ns and so me of the prim e-time spec ials from the 1980s. This entire season, along with the sec ond half of season 6, is available on Garfi eld and Fr iends Volume 5 DVD set. Also wo rth noting is t hat here, a new theme song was added th at was wri tten by J.R. Johnston and Neil Panton. The them e was sung by J.R. Johnston. This th eme song w as not show n inter nationally, and as a res ult, it does not appear on the D VDs (a lthough Garfield's qu otations are ke pt intact). This new introduction sequence used most clips from Seas ons 5-7 an d a fe w from the first two seasons, as well as Garfield in Paradise and Garfield's F eline Fantasies.
