The news comes after star and executive producer, Mark Harmon, signed a new deal with CBS to reprise his role on the ser ies. “NCIS has be en a global juggernaut for a lmost t wo decades,” said CB S Enterta inment P resident, Kelly Kahl. “I ts viewer s are clearly the most lo yal of any drama on television. They are passionate abo ut the characters, the plotlines and the st orytelling. We owe a huge debt of g ratitude to the gifted pr oductio n team and the cast, led by the extraordinary Mark Harmon. We are delighted that th e show wi ll remain a linchpin of th e CBS schedule this coming season.” In its cu rrent seaso n, “NCIS ” has been averaging 12.2 million viewers in the live same d ay ratings, ma king it T V’s second- most-w atched scripted series, behind only “The Big Ba ng Theory.” It has remained a stro ng performer for CBS, in bo th its rat ings a nd viewership numbe rs, and was widely considered to be a stro ng renewal contender leading up to the an nouncement t oday.
