We mee t a very different Birgitt e Nyborg (Si dse Babett Knu dsen) in the third season than the person we last saw speaking from the lectern in parliament. She i s no long er prime minister. I t is two an d a half y ears since she called an election in which she failed to win the required number of se ats to maintain the exist ing government . Nyborg had to resign, and c hose at the sam e time to step dow n as part y leader in order to make way for new, up-and-c oming figures. She h as thus left politics, and is now a h ighly-paid speaker in the business world. She also sits on several major b oards , which req uires her to do a lot of tra velling. Her old p arty , the Moderates, has changed course somewhat. The cur rent p arty leader is Birgitte's former crown prince, Jacob Krus e (Jens Jacob Tychsen), who previously betray ed her, afte r which she promoted him to the post of EU Commissioner to get rid of him. He h as contributed to pulling the Mode rates in a more conservative dire ction, so t hat even on the immigr ation i ssue, the party is be ginning to app roach the politi cs of t he current government, led b y Lars Hesselboe. Birgitte Nyborg has consciously tried t o put political life in Denmark behind her, but she begins to pa y more and more attention to the cha nge of course in the Moderat e party. It b ecomes increasingly difficult for her to observe from the sidelines the p olitic al deals th at the Mod erate are entering into. During a talk she is holding for yet anothe r group of Danish businesspeople, it all s udden ly becom es too much for her. She c an n o longer brush off the recurring ques tion of what she would do if she were Prime Mi nister. Now she chooses to respond, and to s how commi tmen t. She makes the decision to return to pol itic s. Katrine (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen ) and Kasper (Pil ou Asbæk) now have a baby son , Gustav, but the couple has alrea dy spli t up. Kasper could not live in a r elationship with Katrin e once th ey becam e a small family, so they now live separately and sha re equally in lookin g afte r Gustav. Katrine is s till worki ng a lot a s a leading anchor on TV1, and must draw a gr eat deal on her mother to help her to g et her everyd ay life to function. Kasper has been g iven an an alytical politic al magaz ine programme on TV1 (Juul Friis) wit h TV1 's news director, Torben Friis. Torben Friis (Søren Malling) is still head of news at TV1 News, and is comfor table with this position.
