It is two and a half years since she cal led an ele ction in which she f ailed t o win the required number of seats to maintain the ex isting government. Nyborg had to resign, and chose at the s ame time t o step down as part y leader in order to make way f or new, up-and-coming fi gures. She has thus left politics, and is now a highly -paid speake r in the business world. She also sits on several major boards , which requires her to do a lot of t ravelli ng. Her old party, the Moder ates, has c hanged cours e somewh at. The cu rrent party leader is Bi rgitte's former crown princ e, Jacob Kr use (J ens Jacob Tychsen), who pr evio usly betra yed her, aft er wh ich she promoted him to the p ost of EU Commiss ioner to get rid of him. He ha s contribut ed to pull ing the Modera tes in a m ore conservative direction, so that e ven on the immigrat ion issue , th e party is beginn ing to appr oach the politics of the cur rent govern ment, led by L ars Hesselbo e. Birgitte Nyborg has consciou sly tried to put political life in De nmark behi nd her, but she b egins to pay more and more attention to the change of course in the Moderate party . It be comes i ncreas ingly difficult for her to observe from the side lines the politi cal deals that the Moder ate are entering into . Duri ng a talk she is holding for yet another group of Dani sh businesspeople, it a ll suddenly becomes too muc h for her. She can no longer br ush off the recurring quest ion of w hat she wo uld do if she wer e Prime Mi nister. Now she chooses to respond, a nd to show commitment. She makes the deci sion to return to p olitics. Katrine ( Birgitte Hjort Sørensen ) and Kasp er (Pilou Asbæk) now have a baby son, Gustav, but the cou ple has already split up. Kas per cou ld not l ive in a r elationship w ith Katrine once the y became a s mall family, so they now li ve sep arate ly and shar e equa lly in lo oking afte r Gustav. Ka trine is still working a lo t as a leading anchor on TV1, and mus t dr aw a great deal on her moth er to help her to get her everyd ay life to function.
