It is a drama series that deals w ith the personal c osts and consequ ences of t he struggl e for power for the people a t the centr e of bo th the political world and the media. We meet a very diff erent Birg itte Nyborg (Sids e Babett Knudsen) in the third season tha n th e person we last saw speakin g from the lecter n in parliament. She i s no longer prime minister. It is two and a half year s since she called an election in which she failed to win the r equired number of seats to maintain the ex isting go vernment. N yborg had to res ign, and chose at the same time t o step down as party leader in ord er to make way for new, u p-and-coming figures. S he has thus left politic s, and is now a highly-paid speaker i n the business world. She also sits on several major boards , which requires her to do a lot of travelling. Her old party, the Moderates, has changed course somewhat. Th e cur rent party leader is Birgi tte's form er crown prince, Jacob K ruse (Je ns Jacob Tychsen), wh o previ ously be trayed her, a fter which she p romoted him to the post of EU Commiss ioner to get rid of him. He has con tributed to pulling the Moderates in a more conserv ativ e dire ction, so that ev en on the i mmigration issue, the party is begi nnin g to approach the politics of the current g overnment, led by La rs Hesselboe . Bi rgitte Nyborg ha s consciously tried to put political life in Denmark behind her, but she begins to pay mor e and more att enti on to the cha nge of cours e in the Mo derate pa rty. It b ecomes increasingly diff icult for her to observ e from the sidel ines the political deals that the Moderate are e ntering i nto. During a talk she is h olding for yet ano ther gro up of Da nish bus inesspeople, it all suddenly becomes too much for her. She can no longer br ush of f the recurr ing question of what she would do if she were Prime Minister. Now sh e chooses to respond, and to show commitment. She m akes the decision to return to p olitics. Kat rine (Birgit te Hjort Sør ensen ) a nd Kasp er (Pilou Asbæk) now have a baby son, Gust av, but the couple has already split up. Kasper could not live in a relation ship with Katrin e once they became a small family, so they now live separatel y and sh are equ ally in looking after G ustav. Katrine is still work ing a lot as a leading anchor on TV1, and m ust dra w a great deal on her moth er to help her to get her everyday life to function. Kasper has been given an analytical politi cal magaz ine programme on TV1 (Juul Friis) w ith TV1's news dir ector, Torbe n Friis. Torben Frii s (Søre n Malling) is still head of news at TV1 News , and is comfortable with this position. He is put to the test when he acquires a new, younger boss, and this affec ts him both profess ionally an d private ly. We fol low the former prime minister's r eturn to the polit ical arena. Whereas the parlia ment once w as Bi rgitte Nyborg 's workpl ace as party leader and prime minis ter, it has now beco me the goal of her eff orts.
