W e meet a very different Bir gitte Nyborg (S idse Bab ett Knudsen) in the third season tha n the pers on we last saw speaking from the lecter n in parl iament. She is n o longer prime minist er. It is two and a half years since sh e called an election in w hich she fai led to win t he required num ber of seats to maintain the e xisting government. Nyb org had to resi gn, and ch ose at the same time to ste p down as party leade r in o rder to make way for new, up-and-coming figures. She has thus left pol itics, and is now a hi ghly-paid s peaker in the bu siness world. She also sits on several major boards, whi ch requires her to do a lot of tra velling. Her old party, the Mode rates, has changed course so mewhat. The curre nt part y leader is B irgitte 's former crown pri nce, Jacob Kruse ( Jens Jacob T ychsen), who previously betray ed h er, after which she promoted hi m to the post of EU Com missi oner to get ri d of him . He has co ntri buted to pull ing the Moderates in a more conservative dire ction, so that eve n on the immigratio n issue, the party is beginn ing to approach the polit ics of the cur rent go vernment, led by Lars Hesselboe. Bi rgitte Ny borg ha s consciously tried to put political l ife in Denmark behind her, but she begins t o pay more and more att ention to the change of course in the Mod erate party. It becom es increasi ngly difficult fo r her t o observ e from the sidelines t he political deals that the M oderate are enterin g into. D uring a t alk she is holding for yet another group of Danish businesspe ople, it al l sudd enly becomes too much f or her. She can no lon ger brush off the recurring question of what she would do if she were Prime Minister. Now she choose s to respond, and to show commitment. She makes t he decis ion to retur n to politi cs. Katrine (Birgitte Hjort Søre nsen ) and Kasper (Pilou Asbæk) now have a ba by son, Gustav, but the c ouple ha s already split up. Kasper could not live in a relationship with Katrine once they became a small family, so they now live s eparately and share equall y in looking after Gustav. Katr ine is stil l working a lot as a leading anchor on TV1, and must draw a great dea l on her mothe r to help he r to g et her everyday life to functio n. Kasper h as been giv en an analytical p olitical magazine p rogramme on TV1 (Ju ul Friis) with TV1's news direct or, Torben Friis. Tor ben Friis (Sø ren Malling) is still head of news at TV1 News, and is comfortable with this position. H e is put to the test when h e ac quires a ne w, younge r bos s, and this affect s him both professiona lly and privately. We follow t he former pr ime m inister's return to the political arena.
