It is a drama series that deals with the persona l costs and consequences of th e str uggle f or power for the people at the centre of both the politica l world and the media. We meet a very different Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse B abett Knu dsen) i n the thi rd season t han the pe rson we last s aw speaking from t he lec tern in parliament. She is no longer prime mi nist er. It is two and a half years since she calle d an elect ion in which sh e fa iled to win the require d numb er of seats to maintain the exis ting governm ent. Nyborg had to resign, and cho se at th e same time to step down as pa rty leader in order to make way for ne w, up-and-coming fi gures. S he has thus left politics, and is now a hig hly-paid speaker in the busi ness wor ld. She also sits on several major boa rds, which re quires her to do a l ot of t ravelling. Her old party , the Moder ates, has cha nged cour se somewhat. The current party le ader is Bi rgitte' s for mer cr own prince, Jacob Kruse (Jens Jacob Tychsen), who previously betrayed h er, af ter which she p romot ed him to the p ost of EU Commi ssioner t o get rid of him. He has contri buted to pul ling the Moder ates in a more conser vative dire ction , so that even on the immigration issue, the party is beg inning to approach the politi cs of the cu rrent gove rnment, led by Lars Hesselboe. Birgitte Nyborg ha s consci ously tried to put political life in Denmark behind her , but she begins t o pay more and more attention to the change of course i n the Moderate party. It beco mes increasing ly difficult for her t o observe fro m the sidel ines the political deals that the Moderate are entering int o. During a talk she is ho lding for yet another group of Danish busine sspeople, it all suddenly becomes too much for her. She can no l onger brush off the recurrin g question of what she would do if she wer e Prime Mini ster. Now she choose s to respond, and t o show co mmitment. She ma kes the de cision to return to po litics. Katrine (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen ) and Kasper (Pilo u Asbæk ) now have a baby son, Gustav, but the c ouple has already split u p. Ka sper could not live i n a relationship with Katrine once they became a small family, so they now live sepa rately and share equally in looking after Gustav. Katrine i s still working a lot as a lead ing anchor on TV1, and must draw a great deal on her mother to help her to get her everyday li fe to function. Kasper has been g iven an analyt ical politi cal magazine programme on TV1 (Juul Friis) with TV1's news dire ctor, Torben Friis. Tor ben Friis (Søren Malling) is still head of news at TV1 News, and is com fortable with thi s posi tion. He is put t o the test w hen he acquires a new, younger bos s, and this affects him b oth professionally and p rivately. We f ollow the former prime mini ster's ret urn to the politic al arena. Whereas the parlia ment once w as Bir gitte Nyborg's wo rkplace as p arty leader an d prime minister, it has now b ecome the goal of her efforts.
