It is tw o and a half yea rs si nce s he c alled an election in which she failed to wi n the requi red number of seats to mainta in the existing government. Nyborg had to resign, and chose a t the same time to step down as party leader in or der to make way for new, up-and-co ming figure s. She has thus left politics, and is now a highly -paid speaker in th e busi ness world. She also sits on several maj or board s, which r equires her to do a lot of trave lling. Her old party, the Moderates, has changed cour se somewha t. The current par ty leader is Birgitte's for mer cr own prince, Jacob Kruse (Jens Jacob Tychsen), who previously betrayed her, a fter which she promoted him to the post of EU Commissioner t o get rid of him. He ha s contribut ed to pulling the Moderates in a m ore conser vative direction, so that even o n the immigration issue, the pa rty is beginning to approach the politic s of the current government , led by Lars Hesselb oe. Birgitte Nyborg has c onsciously trie d to put political lif e in Denmark behin d her, but she begins t o pay more and mo re attentio n to the change of co urse in the Moderate party. I t becomes incre asingly difficult for her to observe from the sid elines the political deals th at the Mod erate are entering into. During a talk she is hold ing for yet another group of D anish busines speople, it all sudden ly becomes too muc h for her. She can no longer brush off the recurring question of what she would d o if sh e were Prime Minister. N ow she chooses to r espond, and to sho w commitment. She makes the decision to return to p oliti cs. Katrine (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen ) and Kasper (Pil ou Asbæk) n ow have a baby so n, Gustav, but the couple has alrea dy split up. Kasper could not live in a relationship with Ka trine once they became a small family, so they now live separately and share equ ally in loo king after Gustav. Katr ine is still worki ng a lot a s a leading ancho r on TV1, and mus t draw a gr eat deal on he r mother to help her to get her everyday life to function.
