Stottle meyer, who wavered betw een admiration for Monk and annoyance at his eccentricities during the first season , is becomi ng more of a friend to M onk as the series develops, frequently calling him in to he lp, as much for M onk's be nefit as for his o wn. However , he knows Monk' s lim itations as well as his strengths and may still harbor doubts about the wisdom of allowin g Monk to carry a gun or su bdue a perpetra tor. But in t he tenth ep isode o f the t hird season, Sharona was replaced by a new assistant, Natali e Teeger (Traylo r Howard). Like Sharona, a divorc ee wi th a son named Benjy, Nat alie is a single p arent, a widow with a daughter named Julie (Emmy C larke). Unlike Sharona, Natalie is not a nu rse b ut a f orme r bart ender with a fresh perspective on Mr .
