Former police detective Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), whose photographic memor y and amaz ing ability to pi ece together tiny clues made him a local legend, ha s suffered f rom intensified obsessive-compulsive disorder and a variety of phobias since the unsolved murde r of his wi fe, Trudy, in 1997.
