A quick glimpse at the ca st for this film would ma ke any horror fan giddy with gle e. The actua l movi e doesn't live up to those high expectations , but it's far from bein g all bad. Desi A rnaz Jr. (!) plays an author who ma kes a crazy $20 ,000 bet with hi s publisher that he could write a g reat novel in only 24 hours. To do so , the publisher gives him the keys t o an old abandoned house where he won't be di sturbed. Not tr ue. Once he gets there he is interru pted by a multitude of guests including a family which consists of J ohn C arrad ine, Sheila Keith, Pe ter Cushing a nd Vincent Pric e. They are gathered ther e in a twisted family reu nion t o rele ase their broth er from the room he 's been imp risoned in for forty years. Ev en Christo pher Lee drops by a s Corriga n, the man who has just purchased the house. Soon, t hey realize that the caged brother is loose and out for revenge. What a grea t plotli ne and what a dream c ast! This movi e should have been a hell of a lot better. It's hard to pinpoi nt the exact problems wi th the fil m, bu t I would ve nture to say that the lack o f lighting was a major fault. Sure the house has no electr icity but I t hink they took the title of t he movie a little too liter ally . Scenes aft er scenes are barely visib le and the actors' faces are undecipherable. Only the mo ments in th e main d inning hall are well lit. Als o, t he great actors are given very little t o do. Cushi ng gets a few chuckles as the scared brother but Price, Lee and espe cially Carradine are somewha t wasted h ere. Well , at leas t Price g ets the b est line of the f ilm `Please don't interrupt m e whil e I am so liloquizing.'
