This is a n interes ting yet bi zarre little tale of a fictional (as far as I know, anyway) experiment performed dur ing the St alin-co ntrolled yea rs in t he USS R. The main character is changed from a woman into a man. This is part of a larger plan to change more women into men an d have a stron ger work-fo rcearmy, etc. It 's a very in -depth char acter study of t he main c haracter, who tries to fi t into a world that she (now ' he') does n't really understan d, especially since sh e's now a man ... Stalin dislikes th e results of the e xperiments and has the scie ntist killed. The m ain charac ter then goes off to live a life as a simple , unknown eve ryday Sovie t, but is inexplicably drawn into large r and l arger schemes (somewhat reminiscent of Forrest G ump in tha t way). (s)He has run-ins with differ ent important charac ters, incl uding his ex-boyfr iend fro m hi s days of being a woman, as well as going on a demented quest f or the n urse with whom he possibly fell in love after the operation...
