剧情简介

导演:Herbert Wilcox

主演:Anna Neagle Anton Walbrook C. Aubrey Smith Walter Rilla

Sixty Glorious Years is an ex ercise in th e creation of iconography, both for Victoria and its star, Anna Neag le (who subseq uently became known as 'R egal Neagle'). Just as Eli zabe th I commission ed artists to create flatteri ng ico nic images for public consum ption, s o this film performs a similar f unction, for Nea gle is more beautiful than the rea l life Victoria. Co ntroversial events (such as the 'Irish pr oblem') are omitted and unpleasant aspects of Victoria's character ( her petulance, arrogance, fa vouritism and ' right to privilege') are glos sed over as endearing little 'w hims'. Albert act s as a moder ating influence when she goes too far. The film followed a year afte r the highly successful Vic toria th e Great (d. Herbert Wilcox, 1937). Again the screenplay is by Miles Mal leson and Robert Vansittar t, and many of the supporting cast (the cre am of acting talent of period) r epeat their roles, this time for the colour cam eras. Th is was the first full length Technicolor fi lm of cinematographer Freddie Young, who captures th e spec tacle of r oyal weddi ngs, grand balls and opul ent inter iors, with scenes actu ally filmed at royal palac es. Vivid battle scenes, set in Alexander Korda's empire t erritory (S evastopol a nd the Sudan), riv al those in The Four Feathers (d. Zoltan Ko rda 1939). The title music sets th e tone a rega l choi r sings ov er a shot of the crown. Elg ar's 1901 'Pomp and Circumst ance' march is heard during the d iamond jubilee celebra tions and, as Victoria's coffi n lies in state, the film concludes with An thony Coll ins' stately music accompanied by the text of Rudyard Kipling's 'Lest we forg et'. Com bined with the emotional app eal of scenes of Victoria connecting with her 'or dinary f olk', this is stirrin g stuff. The film co nnects with conte mporary eve nts of 1938. The release of t wo cel ebratory royal fi lms was intended to boost public affecti on for the monarchy i n the wake of E dward VIII 's abdication. An glo-German relations we re anothe r touchy subject. With a nothe r war on t he horizon, influentia l voices wanted appease ment, and th e film could be seen to fit that agenda. Vic toria herself was of mainly German descent, nickn amed 'the grandmother of Europe', wh ile Albert is a ' good German', charmingly played by Anton Walbro ok as a cultured , decent man . Sixty G lorious Years now seems unduly formal and reverential. Had m ovies existed during Victoria's reign (they only emerged at the end) this might have been the ki nd of fi lm produced. Unlike Mrs Brown (d. John Madden, 19 97), it is all so very 'Victorian'. Roger Philip Mello r 星辰影院为您提供《荣耀六十年1938》完整未删减版免费在线观看。
