Series Ei ghteen starts a irin g on 29 Janu ary 201 2 with seven episodes (not including the India Specia l),[1] following on from the 20 11 C hristmas special which aired on 28 Dece mber 2011.[2] In the sp ecial they take a route across India , the first of the many countri es Top Gear plans to visit over the course of the new series, acc ording t o Jeremy Clark son. Shooting in Indi a began on 2 October, with the firs t leg of the shooting beginning in su burbs of Mum bai.[3][4] The show was also seen in Lecce, Ita ly with a N oble M600, McLaren MP4-12C and a Lamborghini Aventador.[5] Hammond announced during the To p Gear Li ve shows in Birmingham, that add itiona l re cordings for the ne w series had been done in the USA. The January 2012 ed ition of Top Gear Ma gazine featured a pre view of what to expect in series 18.[6] It i ncluded a pie ce wh ere Richard Hammond drives a NASCAR safety c ar for a real race, later going on to drive an actual NASCAR race car. The magaz ine also featured a p art of some of the powe r tests to exp ect, including Jeremy Clarkson driv ing a Merce des-Benz C6 3 AMG Black Editio n, a Mercedes SLS A MG Roa dster and a Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. Hammond meanwhile will drive a 2012 BMW M5 F10, and May will have a Vauxhall Corsa Nürburgring Edition. Another fea ture is going to China to test drive Chinese cars, I taly in 3 su per-cars, Lamborghini Aventad or, Nobl e M600 and a McLaren MP4-12C. Also James May is taking a trip to USA to test sp orts hybrid supercar Fisker Karma, meet ACDC f rontman Brian Johnso n and drive his 1928 Bentley Vanden Plas LeMans Tourer. Accordi ng to T op Gear Executive Producer Andy Wilman, Clarkson, Ha mmond and May are g oing to norther n Sweden a s well, where they will race t he new Ferr ari FF across a Silverstone Circuit-shaped ice track.
