Challe nging fashion norms, the designers are tasked with creating functional outfits for Olympians and Paralympians, as well as turning donated garments fr om Goodw ill of NY into high f ashion wear. In the premi ere of Project Runway, t he com petition begins wit h some twists right out of the air port gate. With luggag e still in tow , the design ers are gre eted at the iconic TWA Hotel at JFK airport ready to take flight with their f irst challenge to cr eate an innov ative look inspire d by humanity’s continued push into space explora tion. In a Runway f irst, these unfa miliar designers have to pair up and collaborate to make cohesive pieces that blow away the judges or they are out.
