Long out of circul ation, Deep Throat Part II was conceived as a soft-core sequel to the high ly successfu l Deep Thro at. The film w as written and directed by sexplo itation virtuoso Joe Sarno and shot on 35mm in the New Y ork City area in early 1973. It w as released in the U. S. in early 1974 with an MPAA R rating an d qui ckly disappeared; po rn journalist Al Goldstien, writing in Screw, ca lled it the worst film I have ever seen. The existing U. S. versio n of the film now o n DVD is bo wdlerized; the I talian D VD release v ersion contains the f ilm's ori ginal soft-core sex sce nes. There has l ong been an urban leg end that the film was shot ha rdcore and that the har dcore sex scen es were stolen while the film was in p ost-produc tion ; thi s claim seems extremely dubious and director Joe Sarno himself has insisted in interview that only soft-cor e sex scenes were shot for the film.
