It combines t he we ll-kn own aesthetics , technical improvements and artisti c meri ts for which the Nordic d irec tor was known and praised since those e arly silent times ti ll toda y. Th e film tells of the merry and carefree love life of young O lof ( Herr L ars Hanson ) a woodsm an who du ring his search for t rue love, s educes many frau leins ( just like this German aristo crat… well, n ot exactly because the pur pose of this H err Vo n’s sedu ction of rich fr äulein heiresses are t heir great fort unes… ). He will suffer disappointment a nd deception, all those problems that turn up in any l oving re lationship. F inally he wi ll find responsib ility and maturity , learning d uring his particular quest that his actions always ha ve con sequences i n dif ferent degrees to the people aroun d him. This Herr Von ca n describe “Sangen Om…” as a kind of co ming of age film, the special intr ospective gr owth toward mat urity o f a free and easy youngster. As this German cou nt said before, th e film displays Stiller’s character isti c artistic virtues. ; i n the first part of the film, we can see elemen ts of comedy , not exactly like the comed y of intrigues in othe r Stiller films, but hum or of a more cheerful sort, highlighting the self-involvement of o ur hero. Olof ‘s frivolous flirtations with t he dif ferent gi rls eventually t urn romantic and then turn into drama. There is conflict in the trou bled relationship betw een Olof and his father and later with the fathe r of his be loved . The beautiful an d wild natural l andsca pes of No rrland and n orthe rn Sweden l end the tale a cert ain power and is characteristic of Herr Stille r’s other si lents wher e Nature em erges as an important cha racter in th e stor y.
