Out of the fifties 'B ' Science-Fict ion monster movies, this easil y ra nks as t he best. It's most notable as the film that ALIEN is an u nacc redite d rem ake of, thus giving it a certain historical si gnificance. The intriguing plot i s about the rescue of the only marooned surviv or (Col. Carruthers) of an ill-f ated exp edition to Mars. Th e auth oritie s, pig-heade d as usual, falsely assume tha t he murdered his fellow crew membe rs, so that he'd have mor e pro visions to s urvive; hence he is being bro ught back to Earth to fac e court-ma rtial for murd er. (There is also a somew hat interesting plot revers al here Most movies of this nature usually begin with the shi p lea ving Ea rth, enroute to its ot herwo rld dest inatio n, while, in this case, the story is believed finished, and be gins as the characters take-off from the other p lanet, returning to Earth). As t he rescu e ship is leaving Mars, a lurking, ominous shadow is seen in the lower comp artment. (A frighten ing, atmospheric moment , accompl ished through sheer ec onomy and simplicit y). Ca rruther s insi sts of his innocenc e to h is fellow captors, claimin g that hi s original crew mates were slaugh tered by a hostile, unseen presence on the desol ute red planet, bu t three-guesses as to the ir reaction to his unu sual plea. Na turally, he can' t prove it, and 50's sp ace autho rities were not very ali en conscience at the time . (As a side-thought, unseen menace ma y remind you of that highly orig inal BLAIR W ITCH). As everyone sacks ou t, a hapless supporting characto r whose name is at the bottom of the casting list (gue ss what will happen to hi m) hears something in the lower c ompartment . Des pite your futile don't go down there, you jerk! pleas, h e does just that, an d is appropr iately kil led (mo re like thoroughly obliter ated) by the shadowy figure with insatiable bl ood lust o n its mind. In the victim's case , dereliction of duty and sheer cowardlines s would hav e been the wise decision. The scene is actua lly we ll-di rected (fo r a change) and develo ps much suspense, a s the ent ire fil m sur prising ly does. The c rew finally catches on that they h ave an unwanted s hip crasher on board, and try every po ssible means at their dis posal to eliminate it , but the u nknown creature seems to cop ping an anti -deat h attitude. Proving to be an even m ore cle ver, worthy adver sary, 'IT!' als o hi des out in the ven tilatio n shafts of the ship (n ow that should ring a bell). Cahn's forceful dir ection generates co nsiderable tension as t he malevo lent s towaway w orks its w ay up from one level of the c onfined ship t o the nex t, eventually leaving t he remaining characters trapped at t he top. The movie' s suspen se is blunt and right t o th e point IT!' h as to kill t hem or starve, hence they have t o kill IT! or die. Nothin g like those no two w ays about it choices. Ren t it, or che ck for i t on cable if you wish to know the outcome. For a low- budget quickie , IT! is qui te impressiv e and memorable. The dreaded s ense of claustro phobic tension, rendering the c haracters' helple ss entrapment, i s highly effective. This is a production in whic h the limited budg et and s mall s ets actually work in favor of the pl ot's scary ambience. The black white photography (Yes, it's one of those!) helps to enhance its da rk, creepy m ood, and the s ense of app rehension is quite high. (Mode rn day co lor freaks neve r seem to t ake that i nto c onsideration). The plot is also somewhat cynical ly ironic If the creature hadn't stow ed away on the ship, Carruthers would have most likely been fou nd guilty o f the charges against him. The intelligent script ( see what I mea n about rareity) was penned by no ted Science-Fiction aut hor J erome Bixby (remember Twilight Zone's It's a Go od Life) The pi cture 's taut edit ing eliminates any e xtrane ous dross. (ALIEN tended to dra g in i ts first hour with its sophomoric dialogue, and why did it have to include that stupid and ultimate ly coun ter-prod uctive s ub-plot of Ash being a robot, and furth er dragging the story down to an other big bad conspiracy clic he UNNEC ESSARY!!!) Dire ctor Ca hn astu tely keeps the rubber-suited monster of f-screen and in the shadows thr ough-ou t most of the proceedings, keeping your paran oid imagination on constant alert. U nfortunately, perh aps at the stu dio's commercial insistance, it is a little over-reveale d at the clim ax, but I haven't claimed thi s to be the perfect mas terpiece. The per forman ces, though nothing award-wi nning, a re neverth eless cool enough so that one be comes sinc erely concerned as to their fates. Not many mo vies in recent times ever co me close to achiev ing that. They can be over-produc ed fro m here to eternity, and usually only su cceed in b eing gloriously annoying. This film's story is not really totally original (what is), for it is based on A.E. Van Vogt's VOYAGE O F THE SPACE BEAGLE. All ALIEN fanatics should track down an old used copy to see where the initial influ ence came from. As long as you're not craving another CGI wind-ding, you may find it wort hwhile. Just don't e xpec t the women to be Ripley pre cursors. This was still the sock-knitting fifties, sad to sa 星辰影院为您提供《外星恶客》完整未删减版免费在线观看。
