Two differen ces between this Austrian ver sion and the ge nerally av ailable American version ar e immediately ob vious they differ both in their lengt h and in the la nguage of the intertitl es. The American versio n is only 1,883 metres long - at 18 frames per second a differen ce o f some 7 min utes to the Au stri an versi on w ith 2,045 metres. Whe reas we originally presumed only a neg ligible differenc e, resul ting from the varying length of the intertitles, a direct comparison has neverthele ss shown that t he Austria n version differs from the American version both in the mont age and in the duration of individual scenes . Yet how could it hap pen that the la ter regiona l distrib ution of a c anonical US silent film wa s longer than the original version Th e pre valent American versi on o f Blind Husband s does not correspond to the version s hown at the p remiere of 1919. T his little -known fact was already publis hed by Richard Ko szarski in 1983. Th e film was re-released by Univers al Pictures in 1924, in a version that was 1,365 fe et (416 metres) shorter. At 18 fram es per second, this amounts to a t ime differe nce of 20 minutes! Titles were altere d, snippe ts of ac tion rem oved and at lea st one major scene take n out enti rely, wh ere von Steuben and Margaret vis it a small local chapel. (Kos zarski) From the present st ate of research we can assume that all the k nown American copies of the film derive from this shortene d re-release version, a copy of which Univer sal donated to the Museum of Mode rn Art in 1941. Accord ing to Koszars ki the original negative of the film was destroyed sometime betwee n 1956 and 1961 and has t herefore been irretrievab ly lost. This information casts an int eres ting light on the Austrian ve rsion , whic h can be dated to the period between the summer of 1921 and the win ter of 1922. Fu rthermore, the cop y is some 200 metres longer than the US version of 1 924. If one follows t he detail s given by Ric hard Kosz arski and Arthur Len nig, this mean s that, as far as both its date and its length are concerned, the Austrian ver sion lies al most exactly in the middle bet ween the ( lost) version show n at the premiere and the re-rele ased one.A large p art of the add itional length of the film can be traced to cuts tha t were ma de to the 1924 v ersion in a lmost every shot . Koszarski describes h ow the be ginning and the end of scenes were trimmed, i n order to speed up the film. However, more exciting was the discovery t hat the Austrian ve rsion contain s shots th at are missing in the American one - shotscountersh ots, intert itles - and further more shows diff erences in its montage (i.e. the placing of the individual shot s within a s equence). Al l this indicates that Die Rache der Be rge cons titutes th e ol dest an d most completely preserved material of the film. 星辰影院为您提供《盲目的丈夫们》完整未删减版免费在线观看。
