Fraught wit h over o bvious symbolism, Hartley's early feature is nonetheless a joy to watch. Hal here shows us hi s uncanny ab ility to cast his charact ers perfectly came early i n his career. Adrie nne Shelley is a near perfect f oil to herself, equa l parts ann oying teen b urgeon ing in her se xuality ( thou gh using sex for several years) ; obsessed with doom and inspired by idealis m gone wro ng she is deceptively – and simul taneously – complex a nd simple. Her Aud rey inspires so many levels of symbolism it i s almos t embarrassingly rich (e.g. , her modeling career begin ning with photos of her foot – cu lminating her doin g nude ( but unseen) work; Manhatta n move; Europe trip; h er stealing, then sleeping with the me chanics wrench, etc.) As Josh, Robert Bu rke gives an absolutely masterful pe rformance. A reformed pris onerpeniten t he returns t o his home t own to face down past demons, accept h is lot and begin a new life . Dressed in blac k, and repeatedly mistake n for a pr iest, he correc ts everyone (I'm a mechanic), yet the symb olism is rich he abstains f rom alcohol, he prac tices c elibacy (is, in fac t a virgin), and seemingly has taken on vows of po verty, and humilit y as well. The humility seems hardest to swallow seeming, at times, almost fal se, a prete nse. Ye t, as we lear n more of Josh we see genuineness in his modesty, that his hum ility is i ndeed ear nest and believable. What seems ironic is the character is fairly fort hright in his si mplicity, ye t so richly drawn it becomes the viewer w ho wants to make him out as more than what he actually is. A fasc inatingly w ritten chara cter, pe rfectly played. Th e scene between J osh and Jane (a wonderful, young Edie Falco . . . You need a woman not a girl) is hila rious . . . real. B ut Hart ley can't leave it a s su ch and his trick, having the actors repeat the d ialogue over -and-o ver become s frustratingly arty and ann oying . . . until again it becomes hila rious. What a terrific s ense of bizar re realit y this len ds the film (like kids in a pe rpetual am n otare to o argument). H artley's w eaves all of a small neighborhood's idios yncrasi es into a tapestry of seeming stereotypes but wh ich delv es far beneath the surface, the cataly st being that every one believes they know what the unbelieva ble t ruth of the title is, y et no two people can agree (including our he ro) on what exactly that truth is. A wonder ful l ittle mo vie wit h some big ideas. 星辰影院为您提供《难以置信的事实》完整未删减版免费在线观看。
